Curriculum Vitæ

Education

  • 2012 – 2017

  • Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Brazil

I completed my Bachelor's degree in Psychology at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) in Brazil, focusing on Clinical Psychology. During this time, I developed a strong interest in the psychosocial aspects of health, particularly how chronic conditions like vitiligo affect individuals' lives. My undergraduate thesis, titled 'Vitiligo as a Psychosocial Disease: Apprehensions of Patients Imprinted by the White,' explored the emotional and social challenges faced by people with vitiligo. This work laid the foundation for my future research in social psychology and health disparities.

  • 2017 – 2018

  • Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Brazil

After my Bachelor's, I pursued a Master's degree in Social Psychology at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) in Brazil. My research focused on the social representations of vitiligo, examining how individuals with this condition perceive themselves and are perceived by others. My thesis, 'Social Representations of Vitiligo: Symbolic Dimensions of the White Mark,' deepened my understanding of the symbolic and cultural dimensions of health-related stigma. This program also introduced me to advanced research methods and strengthened my commitment to studying social inequalities in health contexts.

  • 2018 – 2023

  • Faculty of Psychology, University of Lisbon (UL), Portugal

  • Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), United States

  • Institute of Social Sciences,            University of Lisbon (UL), Portugal

I earned my PhD in Social Psychology through a collaborative program between the University of Lisbon (Portugal) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in the United States. My doctoral research, titled 'The Intergroup Time Bias Effect and Its Psychological Mechanisms in the Medical Context,' investigated how racial biases influence time allocation in medical settings, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of Black and White patients. This work was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Cicero Roberto Pereira and Dr. Jorge Vala, and I was honored to receive the Summa Cum Laude distinction for my dissertation. My PhD experience allowed me to develop expertise in experimental social psychology and health disparities research

Postdoctoral Research Associate

  • 2023 – 2024

  • University of Virginia (UVA), United States

Following my PhD, I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Virginia (UVA) in the Department of Public Health Sciences. During this time, I collaborated with Dr. Nao Hagiwara and other researchers to study implicit racial biases in healthcare and their impact on patient outcomes. My postdoctoral work focused on developing and evaluating interventions to reduce racial disparities in medical settings. This experience allowed me to further refine my skills in health psychology and contribute to impactful research aimed at improving healthcare equity.

Postgraduate Specialization in Psychological Assessment in Health and Hospital Contexts

  • 2023 – 2024

  • Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR), Brazil

In parallel with my postdoctoral work, I completed a postgraduate specialization in Psychological Assessment in Health and Hospital Contexts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR) in Brazil.
